User Guides for JorumUK

The materials below will guide you in how to search for, preview and download resources from the JorumUK collections

Considerations prior to Deposit

What can I deposit to Jorum?

Resources that have been deposited to Jorum include:

  1. Images
  2. Video Clips - at present Jorum does not support video streaming therefore users should be aware of large video files (see below).
  3. Documents (Word or PDF files)
  4. Presentations
  5. Flash Objects
  6. More complex learning objects in the form of IMS or SCORM packages
  7. Web links to an existing resource on your project or other website

Do I have to do anything to the materials before depositing them?

If you are depositing single files such as text documents or presentations then you are not required to do anything before uploading them to JorumUK.

However if you are depositing a collection of files, such as HTML files and associated images, or a more complex learning object, then these need to be content packaged before uploading into JorumUK.

A number of free tools exist to help the user create a content package such as: eXe, Xerte, ReLOAD, Get Thesis, Magic Studio, Compendle, Course Lab, Dokeos.

This is because a content package provides the JorumUK software with information on which page to display first when the user previews the resource. It also means that your object can be easily transported between services like Jorum and learning environments like WebCT, Blackboard and Moodle. A higher level of technical skill is required for the creation of content packages.
